The History of Reading News is the newsletter of the History of Reading Special Interest Group (SIG) of the International Reading Association (IRA). A six- or eight-page newsletter is issued twice a year, every spring and fall. The year 2000 marks the 24th year that the newsletter has appeared and its 23rd volume. Receiving the newsletter is one of the benefits of SIG membership. (See "Membership" for further information.)

The newsletter includes news of the activities of the SIG, reminiscences by and of leaders in the field of reading and literacy, reviews of books on the history of literacy and children's literature, notes on relevant books and articles, conference announcements, information on other organizations with interests related to the history of literacy, and much else.
